Recycling & Donating
We sort everything in the properties we clear. ~ from food, to material, to paint, wood, office items, linen, gardening tools, furniture, electricals, metal, books, bric a brac and of course the rubbish! Everything in the property is allocated a category. This process is quick and efficient allows us to reuse as much of the contents as possible and also reduce the amount of landfill. We work closely with around 10 charities at any given time.
We rotate our donations between different organisations. Some we donate furniture to, some we donate general items to.We use more specialist charities for food, material/clothes, office equipment, garden tools etc. We try to prioritise direct donations – which allows us to reuse a huge amount of items as opposed to being reject by retail charities who do not have the space for the sheer volume of our regular donations.
The majority of the time we use Bristol City Council’s waste transfer station. They offer the best value for money per tonne over other operators for general rubbish, wood and rubble/bricks etc. For cardboard, metal and paint we go to more specialist operators.
It is important that we uphold our recycling standards and we regularly assess our performance in this area and are adaptive to changing current environmental needs. We try to recycle to the extent that we do in our own homes!
